    Description

    West African Dashiki Nightgown, Light Blue Plaid
    100% Cotton, Turquoise Embroidery
    Single Size, Fits Large to Extra Large
    This is a lovely light blue plaid West African Dashiki style nightgown, handmade in Liberia, in a single size which fits a larger woman, Large to Extra Large.  This dress is made from a two lengths of machine woven cotton laid together,
    then sewn
    along the outside edge, leaving an opening for the sleeve.  The neck was then sewn in one end and the piece was then embroidered.  The embroidery is traditional West African.  This dress is pre-owned and may have been worn a few times but is in excellent condition.  It has a single breast pocket and 8" slits on both sides.
    Purchased new in the period 1988 to 1989 in Liberia, before the civil war started in December 1989.   Made of machine woven cotton sheets which were hand sewn, tie-dyed and hand embroidered.
    Embroidery: Neck, front, sleeves, and pocket with turquoise thread
    Size: Handmade as a Single Size with no size label, it fits a larger woman - Size Large to Extra Large

    Armpit to Armpit = 28" (56" around)
    Waist Side to Side = 28" (56" around)
    Length = 53"
    Sleeves = 15"
    My wife and I lived in Liberia in the late 1980's, being forced to leave in early 1990 during the civil war which
    started in December 1989
    , and this dress was purchased originally 30+ years ago.  My wife enjoyed these dresses as very comfortable and cool dresses to wear. It has been stored in our smoke-free, pet-free, pest-free house in dry Colorado and is in great condition.
